Explorable Explanations

I’ve been meaning to post something about Bret Victor’s Explorable Explanations for a while, where he writes about how you can enable and encourage active reading. Like always, his ideas are never about showing of new technology, and always about letting the content emerge (or context).

People currently think of text as information to be consumed. I want text to be used as an environment to think in.
Bret Victor

In the essay he presents three ideas on how to do so: a reactive document, an explorable example and contextual information. He also mentions what he believe can be steps forward to change people’s relationship with text, like bringing those static examples you find almost everywhere to life.
