Growth does not equal to happiness. Watch this great talk by Nic Marks, and then check out their happy planet index site.

Statistician Nic Marks asks why we measure a nation’s success by its productivity — instead of by the happiness and well-being of its people. He introduces the Happy Planet Index, which tracks national well-being against resource use (because a happy life doesn’t have to cost the earth). Which countries rank highest in the HPI? At the end of his talk, Nic suggests five ways to wellbeing that doesn’t have to cost the earth:

  • connect
your social relationships are the most important cornerstones of your life
  • be active

  • take notice
do you notice what’s bubbling up for you and trying to emerge?
  • keep learning
be curious, it doesn’t have to be formal learning
  • give
we feel good if we give
